Tip 1: For the first few hours, you'll be a jack of all trades. The first few hours of The Outer Worlds, you'll be learning the systems of the game (combat, skills, crafting, etc.) and you'll be switching between them often. 

Tip 2: Don't be afraid to experiment. You're free to try out different skills, different weapons, different outfits, different companions, etc. There's a whole host of approaches that you can take. If one strategy doesn't work, try another one.  You're free to explore and experiment with the game to find what works best for you.
